Gift for SmartMeter study participants

As small gift for the participation to the SmartMeter study, every household received a tower from the local electricity company EWZ. The main newspaper of Zurich - the Tages-Anzeiger - reports in his edition of August 25th, 2011 that a few participants complained about the gift.

According to them, buying a tower in China as a gift for taking part in a study to spare resources in a non-sense. The answer of the EWZ mentions that less than 10 people of the 6000 participants complained and that the tower was made in China, but in a sustainable way.

While the choice of the EWZ was perhaps not the best, I still appreciate the movement and hope that people conducting the study will be able to focus on relevant matters - delivering us a great way to understand our electricity consumption and how we can reduce it!

Part of the smart meter study group

EWZ, the electricity company for Zurich, is launching a new smart meter study and was looking for volunteers. Happily I was accepted in the study group and furthermore I’ll be part of the people having a smart meter at home.

Smart meters are subject to long debates about privacy and security. I’ll of course keep you informed about it as soon as I get one :)
