This post is in English because I speak about the Kiwi slang! Well... in the book I received from my colleague for Christmas, I found really funny expressions.

First, here is an introduction to New Zealand:

New Zealand was the first country to see the sun and give women to vote. It's also the only place on Earth where builders eat pie sandwiches for lunch. This land of plenty invented the jetboat, spreadable butter and the electric fence. It's also the only place where jandals and shorts are considered semi-formal. Aotearoa boasts more bookshops and golf courses per capita than any other country. It's also the only land where you can bugger without getting in trouble.

Definitely, some sayings are interesting, especially for the outsiders like us!

  • Good as gold
  • She'll be right, mate
  • You can't handle the jandal
  • Sweet as
  • Good on ya
  • I'm pulling your leg or I'm just kidding
  • I'll have an O for Awesome
  • Marjorie and Bruce are going to the bach for Waitangi Day
  • How many dudes you know flow like this? Not many, if any!
  • Can you believe this place hasn't got EFTPOS?
  • It's in good nick, got a WOF last month

Things you'll never hear a self-respecting Kiwi male say!

  • Let me tell you how to get to my favourite fishing spot
  • We're heading to Invercargill for the summer
  • Shall we leave a tip?
  • Russell Coutts is still a full-blooded Kiwi in my books
  • I don't mind if Australia wins this one
  • Let's think big
  • I won't have a pie - bad for the blood pressure
  • We forgive the French
  • Great, they've got shrimp cocktails
  • I'm going to hire someone to mow my lawns

The EFTPOS is our EC card, this payment method is very very very common. The WOF is the Warrant of Fitness for the car and we need to do it every six month, unless the car is new. Waitangi Day is a sort of National day. Aotearoa is the other name for New Zealand.
